  1. At the moment, there are a lot of them around, and the market is competitive, so there's not much money to be made... and that was BEFORE the housing crash reduced the number of properties put on the market.

The work itself isn't hard - anyone with a good amount of common-sense, a reasonable understanding of how houses work, and the training course behind them should be able to DO the work. The question is whether you'll be able to WIN the work.

As of the 1st October, there will be a lot more work around - that's the date on which EPCs become a requirement for all new TENANCIES. (An EPC on a rental property lasts for 10 years though, and you don't need them for existing tenants, only for new ones - on the basis that they are a way of helping tenants choose BETWEEN properties.)

There should be a mini-boom around September as landlords realise they need them, which could lasting for about a year.

The question is whether you can earn enough in that year to pay for the training.

  2. I think there is a glut of them at the moment, and with the housing market slowing down I think you'd be wasting your time and money.

Why not get in touch with Destiny and become a stripper instead?

  3. no not really.

  4. I'm glad you want to help with the environment

There is the official house surveys side of the business, as mentioned above but imho a major opportunity for reducing energy wastage is getting retired people to improve the insulation in their homes.  My parents say "oh, we can afford the gas bills, why bother to put proper insulation in the roof?"  The global warming is not going to affect them but their children and grandchildren.  How can we explain to them that we would rather they save the CO2 now than leave us an extra 5000 in our inheritance?  There must be thousands of folk like them.
