Any advice on becoming a police officer in Southern California?

I am working out like crazy to get into top shape for the academy. I am brushing up on my very bad Spanish. Is there anything else I can do? First Aid/CPR stuff departments want to see? Self defense or martial arts? My goal is to be ready in 6 months. Any current officers with some advice?

  1. Just run alot The Police Academy is like the military alot of running and stuff like that. Just work out and read alot also, getting in the best shape would help you out the most good-luck.

  2. How quickly can you beat a defenceless black man to a pulp for some minor traffic infraction?

5 minutes or less and you're in.

Otherwise it's off the to State Troopers.

  3. Well all of that will come in handy in the police academy but it all depends on what department will hire you and their standards. Every department is different and will train differently. Just keep your eyes, ears open for anything. Pay close attention and in my opinion being physically in shape is very important but also the LD books in the academy. In order to get POST Certified you have to undergo classes and exams they count for alot of your grade and thus graduating. Have common sense, close attention to detail and always act professional and respectful. Never GIVE UP! The thing that I learned. they wont give up on you unless you do. Best of luck!
