my husband and i just became the proud owners of a rescued mollucan cockatoo, he is beautiful, and mean mean mean. we work with him a few times a day and he will take food from us and throw whiffle balls to us. but when we let him ontop of the cage getting him back in is a tramatic experience for all 3 of us. sunday we are taking him to a breeder and he is going to work with us on how to communicate with brutus so that we can make him more comfortable and secure. the problem is im not sure how to get him into his carring crate? all my other birds are able to be handled, so im at a loss. any ideas?

  1. Try putting a towel over him and wrapping him up in it.

  2. tip:  birds get stressed in cages so be careful

  3. TOWEL, but make sure you come at him from the side so that he can see you but not think that your'e sneeking up on him. :-) Best of luck!!!

  4. In my limited experience with birds, usually they'll calm down if you cover their eyes.  Is this a possibility for Brutus? Just something lightweight that keeps him from seeing and reacting to where he's going?  You might want to talk to the breeder and see what he suggests doing, since he's trying to help you get him settled anyway.

Best of luck with your new family member.  He sounds like he could be a diamond in the rough.
