I was adopted in 1978, it was a closed adoption, and the courts refuse to open my records. I know for sure that I have biological siblings and I would really like to locate them. I would appreciate any advice..

  1. I recently went through this, e-mail me with info and I am guaranteed to help you, this is my hobby.

  2. International Soundex Reunion Registry is how I found my biological family.

Be ABSOLUTELY certain it's what you want to do.

  3. Does your state have a registry? Have you contacted a search angel via vsn.org   ? How recently did you try to open your records? Maybe the judge that denied it has retired etc. Good luck!

  4. Do you know your real name or what is was? do you know their names? if you do you can write tot he health depart of the state and get your real birth certificate. generally if your records are sealed if one of the parents are alive they would have to be asked if you can get them. but you can try and petition the court and try and get your records. it would be nice to meet them i got to meet my sisters and not the real parents. they gave me away after my biol mom let with another man day after i was born to be exact. yep, its not bad though i hae no feelings either way about it. shes gone dads gone oh well that is life. take care.

  5. Join one of the adoption registries.  You can put your name on it and if there are any family trying to find you, they can connect you.  Other than that... if you know names, google them, or contact someone who does ancestory research (you can also pay to join an organization that will give you lots of access to family's history) and you can try to find something.

My uncle does this and he found out that we have cousins in other states, our ancestorys immigranted from Sicily, that sort of thing.  Maybe they can help you.  Best of luck!

  6. Write a letter to the adoption agency and if your bmom has also written then they will send you both a letter saying you can meet. I used a search angel and it cost me 40.00. Also went to locate me, I had birthdate, hospital, town and time of birth. But, the search angel actually found her. I then sent a letter to her last known address that said, I am looking for  someone who was born on jan 12 1972 in my town and I wonder if you could be her. It took her more than a month but we finally met and all is good.

  7. Hi,

I recommend first signing up with International Soundex Reunion Registry.

It's free, it's worldwide, they keep your info on file until a match is made or you request them to remove it.

I located two different natural family members through them.

    Here's their link http://www.isrr.net/

    Good luck.

P.S.  If you would like to join a great adoptee group for support, I recommend this one: http://www.adultadoptees.org/  you will get detailed help from lots of others who have been where you are now.

  8. There are several steps you should take.

    1.  register with isrr.net

    2. register with the state sponsored adoption registry( most states have them)

    3. register with registry.adoption.com

    4. register with g's adoption registry

    5. register and search with any and all adoption registries that you can find online.  Realize that details are forgotten and dates are sometimes a guess.  Look at each registry to look for matches even if the date is off by a day or so.  Sometimes they are off by a year.  If siblings are searching they often times make guesses.

Several states are easier to search than other because of what records are available.  I would need more details are needed for more specific information.

  9. it depends on the country you are located. I found my husbands mother in England 4 years ago and this was a closed adoption. Places like electoral roles are best and if you can search grandparents as quite often that generation don't move house as much as ours. Try not to use a thrid party to search for you as I feel they might miss key triggers of information tht you may pick up on.

  10. if you can post or send me the state you're searching in I can post you up some tips and advice :)
