Is it cheaper to stay in Shannon or Dublin?

I would love to see the countryside and possibly stay in a bed and breakfast. Would it be hard to take a bus to a B&B from the Shannon or Dublin airports?

Is bus travel expensive? What is the cost in US dollars?

  1. OK- i know you said you would like to stay in a bed and breakfast but i think you might like this more.  if you have the money, stay in Dromoland Castle.  it is a magnificent place to stay.  also, take that other persons advice and go to the medevil (sorry...bad spelling) feast at Bunratty Castle.  at dromoland, the rooms are wonderful, they have tons of activities (fishing, tenis, biking, trails, golf, shopping, etc.)  it is wonderful.  if you stay in dublin, i have a restaurant recommendation- go to the temple bar distric and down that street there is a little place called the elephant and castle.  it has really good food.  get the hot wings...YUM!!!  uhhh....am i forgeting anything???  oh yeah, stop in Killarney, it was my favorite place of all.  if you do go, Muckross House is a must, the national park, and go to Murphy's Ice Cream.  It is the best ice cream i've ever had in my life!!!  thanks!  i really hope this helps and if you need anything else feel free to email me.  bballsoccer456@yahoo.com     have a good trip!!!

  2. The Shannon region would be cheaper, and the countryside more accessible. You would be close to the Burren, but the best way of seeing the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher would be to hire a car to get yourself there, unless you can find a tour to bring you .... try the tourist information office for this. Alternatively, you could find some information about buses on www.buseireann.ie .

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are near Shannon Airport, on the way into Limerick City, and it's well worth a visit, even if it is a bit expensive. Shannon is also close to the towns of Newmarket-on-Fergus and Ennis, which both have lots of B&B accommodation.

  3. Hello vmarie84,

Shannon is much cheaper to stay than Dublin.

You can get to local B&B's easily.

Ireland is an expensive country though.

Do visit the Bunratty Folk Park near Shannon to see what old ireland was like.Bunratty Castle has a fun medieval feast in the evenings but you should stay near it to stagger home !

It always takes longer than you think to get anywhere in Ireland .Public transport is infrequent so consider renting a car.

    Keith

  4. If you are only in Ireland for 4 days it would be better to stay in Dublin. Otherwise you could fly into Dublin and stay for two days, then take a bus to Limerick, and stay for the last two days and travel back home via Shannon. At the moment the $ is low against the Euro. Bus travel is not too expensive, and B&B's are good value. Enjoy your stay.
