Any advice on what to do about docks in an area I want to sow grass seed?

I have dug over this area and raked it but but the docks keep growing, and I want to know if I use weedkiller on these, how long before I can sow grass seed

You can use a broad-leaf weedkiller, even when you've grass growing - it'll hit the docks but not the grass.
