Any advice/something to SAY to PPL in the Baby Name section?

Anything you'd like to let out to the other people in the section? Rant? Rave? Compliment? Advise?

What's some advice you like to like to give out to those trying to choose a name?

My own advice: I heard this on here (I think on one of my own questions), so I can't take full credit. Imagine calling your kid for dinner, at the playground, across the room, etc. Does it fit them still? Imagine them being adults, having a job...

Say it out loud (a lot). Write it down (a lot). Look at them after they're born. Do you still see them as being named with the name you picked out?

Remember! it's how you raise them that will make them unique, not just the name (though I don't like most of the "out there" names, I do give credit to some of the parents for wanting their kid to be "out side the box" and not like everyone else...)

SO. What's YOUR advice???

  1. First things first. Please DONT name your kids something they canpronounceded right until they are 7! They need to be able to say they're right by the time they're 4, dont use odd spellings to simple names!

EXAMPLE: Nadine spelled Naydeen or Naydean! It just makes it more confusing for teachers, classmates, and even just plain friends! Spell it the normal way it will save yourself and others less trouble!

...And also what is up with naming your kids after fruits, states, trees, objects? Stick with normal things, and if you go rare go traditional rare or elegant rare. Trendy rare is a fad, and the name will look stupid or overpopulated in the next year to two years!

Example: Dont name your baby boy "Rock" name him something like

Robert or Raleigh! Maybe even Randolph? ( Or did i go a little far? hehe!)

The biggest mistake you can make is naming your child something you knew you were gonna name him/her and after seeing him/her they dont look like there name! Make sure the name fits them... Think of the child not you! See what the child looks like!   It helps tons!

I have 4 kids.... They're names are traditional and rare! and they fit them alot of they're names were just something that popped in my mind when i saw them and it is them!

    Alexandria Marcheline

Demitra Nouvel    ( They are twins! 5yrsold )

We call them Demi & Alex

Juliet Rose  ( Juliet was always what wanted it was actually gonna be Juliet Raine but when seeing her, her middle name was most def Rose!)

    We call her Julie Rose.

Maximillion Leonardo ( This name is TOTALLY long  but Leonardo is a

family name and at the time we didn't know if we were gonna have another boy to use it on!)

We call him Max! Or Max Leon (Thats my husbands nickname for him! hehe!)

Why i showed you my kids names is because i wanted you to see my taste and what i like. So do you? LOL!

OH and another big point, make sure you dont name your kids these names.

Ashley,Caleb,Matthew, Tyler, Isabelle,Ava,Marie, inless they are family names or you are very traditional. These names are WAY to popular for me!

Thats my advise! Thanks for reading! and good question by the way! You earned a star!

  2. use simple, common spellings. no inventive spellings - it does not make a name unique. and please don't give twins matchy names. there, now i vented. thank you.

  3. spell the name correctly. And seriously, think twice about giving your kid a hard to pronounce, uncommon name.

It's no picnic to go through life constantly telling people how to spell it, and always correcting their pronunciation

  4. i really cant wait until people start spelling their children's names correctly. i get tired of seeing all the crazy spellings. i feel bad for teachers.

  6. My advice to people naming children would be: PLEASE help to stop the virtue as a middle name trend. For some reason, I'll never understand why people give their daughters middle names like Hope, Grace, Faith, Love, Patience, etc. What happens if you name your daughter Ashley Faith and she grows up to be Agnostic? What if you name her Melissa Grace and she's a clumsy toddler? It just doesn't make sense to me, and I'd love to see this trend go away. These are words, not names.

  7. I completely agree. Close your eyes and imagine looking at your baby and saying their name. Also, like you said imagine calling them to come to you and see if it sounds right. Make sure the name flows good also!
