anyways.. there is..

pretty much you run a club and the matches are simulated.. it's pretty challenging in terms of building a team and winning your leagues and such.... but it's a simulation game. You don't actually control your players on the field or anything like that.

and then as mentioned there are the dream team comps.. where you pick players under a salary cap and score points based on their real life performances.

If you are a geelong supporter you can go onto gfc.com and play cats super kick where you choose a player a kick from a variety of different places.

Haha, I was just going to suggest the one where you are fourteen and build a career! Apart from those, you could play fantasy footy where you make a Dream Team (Like Supercoach, Aurion Dream Team, etc). The best virtual footy games are on gaming consoles like Playstation and XBox though.
