  1. It's not up to the IOC to set the minimum age.

Each sport's governing body set their own which the IOC accepts.

Gymnastics minimum age is 16 or to be 16 in the same calender year as the event.

Aquatic sports (Swimming, Diving etc) is 14.

  2. The Olympics should have the best sportsmen. Period.

If you can't beat a 14 year old you have no right to be an Olympics champion or be a gold medalist.

The age rule would have prevented the world from knowing Nadia Commenichi who was the first gymnast to score a perfect 10. She was 14 and she was fantastic.

There was a similar debate about allowing professionals into the Olympics. We can leave them out but that will make the Olympics a second rated event if they do not represent the highest level for that sport.

For those who have been brain washed by the western media, no one is being forced to be an Olympic champion.

  3. well i would like an age limit but i need someone to tell me between a 3 time gold medalist on a beam and a little Chinese girl for the first time.  if the Chinese girl is better than all that means is that the Chinese girl has more talent now if there would be an age limit it should be 18 or older.

but i mean if your thirteen winning a medal in the olympics!! than come on.  there are a lot of views to look at it but this is the angel i am.

but if they want to let younger people in. they should have a parent sign some contract and dont let the coaches beat them if they do something wrong.  the only thing would be the young ones wouldnt be able to make desciens for themselves so some stuff could go on that no one would know.

  4. Because some "less scrupulous" countries would be forcing all sorts of children to train and compete before they're old enough to make a decision for themselves.

  5. There's have to be a age limit, or else it would'nt be fair, for a young enegertic person who against a adult who is not either as flexible or skillful....

  6. i guess it wouldnt be fair- in terms of strength and (maybe) skill-

but if they did then they should have like a junior olympics where children compete together.
