Hairy, smelly backpacker does not appeal to me. Please share your secrets/tips for personal grooming while backpacking. Basic makeup, hair removal, personal hygiene items not to leave home without. What to buy while travelling and what NOT to take? Thanks

  1. You can probably get anything you need along the way.  I'd bring one razor...don't mess with the electric kind...too much to worry about with converters and plugs, etc.  very basic makeup...when I'm travelling, I bring an eye lining pencil and  mascara.  That's it.  But then, that's about all I ever use at home, too.  Who do you think you're going to meet?  Make your hair carefree.  Nothing that involves hair dryers or curlers.  Get a shortish cut that is simple to care for, or leave it just long, and use a ponytail holder or something like that...simple.

Carry a bar of soap in one of those travel boxes, and a small container for shampoo.  toothpaste and toothbrush, of course.  If you are staying in Youth Hostels, or any hotel, there's a bathroom with a shower.  Even the cheapest of places, if they don't have a bathroom in the room, there's one down the hall (but that has really been done away with for the most part).   Now, all my experience is in Western Europe.  If you're going into Eastern Europe, you might have to go a step up for a bathroom...my neice is in Moldova now, and has to use an out house, altogether...but she's staying in a family home.  The better hotels don't cost that much in those countries.

  2. Beware that flight regulations are in place for the transport of liquids. You can't take anything over 100 milliliter of liquids in your hand luggage, and it has to be in a resealable bag with a maximum of a liter. For more information contact your info-desk at your airport of departure.

  3. Don't take nothing, travel light. You will thank me for it. Buy all the necessities once you there.(except your favorite par-fume of course). All backpacking hostels do have showers and if you want to spoil your self? Plenty of lovely public baths in all Europe. They are civilized and clean people there even if they don't have flashy bathrooms like we have in Oz.

  4. get yourself some pretty make up.

get some lotions, sprays that last, and deodorant.

    dont want you smelling nasty.

um but careful cuz the plane rules are changing.
