  1. It's a regular occurence.  We were at Southsea Pier when it buned  down for the second time during the filming of the Roger Daltry (Who) film Tommy. The funny thing was, apart from most or all of the cast and crew sunbathing on the beach in full costume, was that the fire died right down to nothing in the early stages, and then suddenly flared up and burned the pier down

Brighton East Pier went up in 2003 Southend in  2005 now Weston, They really should be more careful.

  2. What you mean like the big ones with massives of electrical equipment, entertainment, lights, and people on the end of them. Who would imagine that these ones could go on fire but not the tiny pre-1900 ones.

  3. yes, it is quit a sight to sit on shore watching the pier go up in flames.

  4. its the smokers. they stand outside and flip  the ciggies anywhere. the hot f*g ends burn the place down. we lost our local co op from careless smokers. sadly a smouldering ciggie can take a few hours to suddenly grab something fast burning and another wonderful building is engulfed in flames at 2am

  5. They are all old thats the connection and most do not have sufficient safety regulations, plus made of wood, the ones i have seen also have mostly been damaged by the sea, weather, which is understandable if you think about it.

  6. I was having the same discussion with my mum earlier. I remember the one at Brighton going up and Skegness.

  7. i think it is an insurance fraud, what else?

  8. You didnt mention Southend ! not only has ours been burnt  (at least twice) it has also had at least three ships ride straight through it, yet the longest pleasure pier in the world just keep standing ;-)

  9. Times are tough....Insurance claims are on the increase!...see the trend?....

  10. Yes theres lots!
