Any breastfeeding moms who are disappointed that THEY weren't breastfed by their mothers?

My mother didn't breastfeed me, she said she tried but didn't have enough milk...I see pictures of her in the hospital, hours after I was born, feeding me a bottle..she had PPD so that could have contributed to it, I don't blame her or anything...just disappointed that I wasn't breastfed!

Just wondering if anyone else felt that way, thanks!

  1. No. Doesnt bother me.

  2. Not at all.  It never bothered me that I wasn't breastfed.

  3. I can't say that I'm actually dissapointed.  My mother was on valium for spasms caused by cerebral palsy, she wanted to breastfeed but the doctors wouldn't let her because they were worried about the medication.  I think she was more dissapointed about it through life than I was.   However I do sometimes wonder if things would be any different if I was breastfed.

I'm not currently breastfeeding but I did breastfeed both of my kids and I fully intend to breastfeed this baby after it's born.

  4. Yeah I feel the same. But I know my Mum was not very educated on the benifits of breast milk. She also says she didnt have enough milk and that it hurts. I wish someone had told her that it takes a while for your milk to fully come in properly and that if she had kept me on the breast she probably would have got enough milk. Also they should have told her that the pain is only temporary. She really didnt try at all but she thought formula was just as good and still does. when I had my baby she showed up at my house with bottles and formula telling me to give the bottle ago. I was struggling a little in the beginning with breast feeding (as most of us do) and what I really needed was support but she just kept encouraging me to throw in the towel. I dont blame her though because I know its because she dosnt know about breast milks benefits.  Im so glad I didnt listen to her. I love breast feeding and my bubs has put on weight every week since the day she was born. So I definatly do have enough milk! (my mum kept saying I wouldnt have enough because she didnt)

  5. I breastfeed currently, and I was breastfed 14 months, but I just wanted to say I understand where you're coming from.  I've learned SO much about the miraculous benefits of breast milk, that I know I'd be a bit sad if I wasn't nursed.

My husband wasn't nursed (His wonderful mom freely admitted to me she knew nothing about breastfeeding, since no one had ever done it around her.  Formula was the norm.  I'm thankful she's so supportive of my breastfeeding!), and he wishes he had been.

  6. i am breastfeeding and my mum breastfed me for a few months and then i preferred a bottle. i can't say i blame her at all. besides, back then breastfeeding wasn't the norm if you know what i mean. as a strong believer that breast is best, i still understand why some women don't want to breastfeed or give up after a few days. it's very hard work and if you don't have support from your partner and family, it's even harder. hopefully with your training you'll be able to help many mothers with breastfeeding!

  7. Nope i am not disappointed.  My mom didn't get in any milk at all and that is what happens to most of the woman on my moms side, they just don't get in milk.  She also was young (21) and busy helping my dad raise his 3 kids (6, 13 and 15) and so breastfeeding probably wouldn't have been successful anyways.  My mom wasn't raised in a breastfeeding family.  I am the first in my moms side of the family to do it.  I love my mom, she still did everything she could to give me a great life and still does and she is very supportive of me choosing to breastfeed and is there for me when i need her to be.  We bonded great even without the nursing.

  8. You know what I don't even know if I was breastfed or not, and I don't care, it was so long ago and I am alive so she must have taken care of me regardless.

No I am not currently breastfeeding, and I don't currently have a baby but number 2 is due in December and I plan to BF.
