Any builders (or anyone else), do you know what this is?

Question

We've had a roofer come around to do some maintinence and he's taken out two big aluminium thingies out of the roof and replaced it with tiles. Does anyone know what these are and what they do? I've attached some photos.

That is a roof vent with flapper which is used to vent hot air from the attic or crawl space of your home. That particular vent is an old out of use model, though they worked, there are models these days that work much better. You said that the roofer went over them with tiles, They should have either replaced them with new vents or relocated new vents. Poor venting causes a host of issues from excessive heat in the attic to pealing paint and so on. Good Luck!

Lostlure is absolutely right you might want to get ahold of that roofer and ask him if he relocated the vent outlet or replaced it because if he didn't you could be in a really bad situation depending on you location!If you are in a hot area your electric bill could increase becauseof ac running over time,moisture build up could cause mold rot and a host of other problems!Poor ventalation in the roof system is not a good thing!
