  1. earth is a much smaller target, so the odds are much lower - assuming you mean shoemaker-levy 9. it's happened before, like the chicxulub impact.

earth is hit by space debris all the time. there is a meteor shower happening right now, in fact.

  2. Absolutely there's a chance.

And it's happened, at least twice.

Not to mention the other 185 known impact craters.... the last *big* one was Tunguska, Russia, in 1908.  The one previous to that was probably the one that impacted in Saudia Arabia, in the late 1700s.  In 198....4? 6?  there was an estimated 10 kiloton blast off the coast of California attributed to an exploding meteor.

  3. What do you think you're seeing when you see a meteor shower.  The little "things" , that are falling, are actually burning up in the atmosphere of the Earth.  So, yes, the meteor shower is actually "hitting" the Earth.  However, they're being burned up before they actually "hit" land!  That's because they're so small----

Now, if there was a "big" one like the one that hit in AZ., or in Australia, or in Chichulu, Mexico, or in Tunguska, Russia, (these "hits" did actually happen) well, there's a possibility that there could be massive die off of most living things, including some humans(most of us, that is, those of us who don't survive)!  In other words, it might be very close to the "End" of Earth, as we know it!  For sure!

But, of course, "if"  there would be a "break up" of the meteor.  But "if" a frog had wings, etc., etc.

  4. It has happened in the past and so it will happen in the future.  The last big meteor / asteroid hit Tunguska, Russia (Siberia) in 1908.  See the link below.
