Any chance of nhl hockey in Oklahoma?

A few years ago there was a lot of talk about the Pens moving to Oklahoma City, the nhl mentioned that the timing wasn't right but OKC would be an excellent possibility in the future. Is an expansion team for OKC likely?

  1. i didn't really think hockey was that popular in Oklahoma. i don't think the pen's are gonna move anyway. i can't really picture an Oklahoma hockey team. its kinda like have the Phoenix coyotes - it doesn't really make any sense- its hot there and the people don't really like hockey. but if people actually like hockey there i don't think its a horrible idea but its still not really a good one

  2. I hope not.  they don't even have enough talented players for 30, heck 26 teams... I wish they could fold some of these teams that make me snooze like Nashville and Florida... but that would look bad and Espn would trash the NHL even worse.

They could have an AHL or WHL team, that's about right for OKC.

  3. no bro

  4. As LITY has stated many times... there are 2 proposals in for Expansion..... both by owner groups based in the USA> the only person in Canada that has the money right now to put in a proposal is Balsillie. He has expressed that his way of getting a team is to buy one and relocate it as it is much cheaper. So he has not submitted a proposal.

Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the proposals, and that is for VEGAS. The other owner group I believe was for either Seattle and Okla City at this point. CHECK- Not Okla City or Seattle, but Kansas City is the second that has a proposal in.

Its hard to tell what the league will do. I think there are a few markets that could waiver over the next few years, and without mentioning them I think we all know who they are. I do not think the NHL will do anything at this point, I think for a few years it will be a wait and see thing. If a few teams need to move, then the problem has been solved without expanding. The owners want expansion, because they all receive free money that comes out of the expansion fund for each team. But the league does not want to be put in a place where they announce expansion for 2 teams (has to be 2 at this point) and in a few years have a few other teams that need to move markets and there is no place for them to go to be lucrative. Its kind of a tightrope act right now.

On a side note- Winnipeg has ran a study and figured the only way for them to get a team back is to have an Arena that seats over 17,000 and every ticket has to sell for every game... with the median price of a ticket being $91. Thats a little steep for a median ticket price in a smaller market like Winnipeg.

  5. to many tornadoes

  6. Hockey is not so popular in oklahoma unless they have a team

  7. I doubt you will see much expansion in the NHL anytime soon. What hurt the league to begin with is that it created 30 teams when in actuality there are not 30 markets that can support it, it also created the need to fill rosters and a lot of the teams had to use AHL talent to fill the rosters. The fact that there was such a talent gap between the elite NHLer and an AHL fill in caused the salaries to explode and many teams were put into the red. If a team were added you would likely need to add 2 so that you have and even number of teams in each conference. Then there is the problem what division do you put OKC in if you choose the central who do you move out? If OKC is put in the central then you ruin the division rivalry that would be possible with dallas but it makes no sense for BOTH teams to be in the Pacific. So if you love hockey don't root for expansion.

  8. probally not, hockey isnt very popular in OK, so the OKC blazers is the closet thing your going to get to pro (CHL)

  9. naw. im sorry, but i dont think oklahoma deserves it. i barely think any southern teams deserve it (florida, texas, arizona..).i dont believe most people there really appreciate hockey like people in the north and canada do.

  10. I don't think that expansion is even a possibility in the near future. But even if an existing team relocates, I'd be very surprised if it was to OKC. I think either Kansas City or somewhere in Canada would happen first.

  11. No but hey look on the bright side. You're at least getting the Sonics and the Sooners r good

  12. Nope.  If there's a new team it will most likely be in Canada.  Absolutely not chance of Oklahoma.  Sorry dude.

  13. probably not

    where is oklahoma anyway?

  14. no probably not but there is a chc team in oklahoma i think
