Question:

Any cheerleaders out there?

I'm doing this thing at school and I'm cheer leading with a friend and we're very excited, but I'm not a typical cheerleader and I won't look good in short skirts!

Also, I really want to join a team but I'm useless at rolls and cartwheels and I cant do the splits to save my life!!

Does this matter in cheerleading or can I lift and just dance?

Also any good dance moves or advice to wow the audience?

I would appreciate any feedback!

xx

  1. Girl, I love this question!  I cheered 4 years in high school, and currently cheer in college.  NO - you do not have to be good at "gymnastics" to be good at "cheerleading," since they are two separate sports!  Many people fail to realize that arm motions, loudness, jumps, and smiling are more important than cartwheels!  Personally, yes, I think you should focus on stretching so that you can better your jumps.  Also, really focus on tight motions - it's essential.  As far as your appearance, don't worry about meeting standards.  Just keep your eyebrows tweezed, face clean, hair not greasy, and act respectful.  :]  Best of luck!

  2. I would suggest taking cheer camps or some gymnastics classes to help with flexibility and to help you learn cheer dances and cheers. It helps.

  3. You really need to be able to jump and be flexible to do so as well. You should probably learn how to tumble too. Remember everyone is going to be watching you. You wouldn;t want to make a fool of yourself. Work on stretching a lot and sign up for a tumbling class.
