Question:

Any chess playing tips?

I have rather foolishly bet my Rolls Royce on a game of chess with fellow Raffles member, Sir Ashton Under-Lyme. Thing is, I'm somewhat inexperienced as a player and he isn't.

Are they any sneaky moves I could learn quickly to outsmart the 2002 Raffles Club Chess Champion and keep hold of my Rolls? If I happen to win, my prize is a whole ham.

  1. Defence. Remeber about defence and you need statigie.

  2. Position the board so that the sunlight reflects off the board into his eyes.

  3. Um, no, unless you try that laxative idea.

Agatha Christy had a board where B-b5 connect the metal rod in the Bishop with an electrical source and the player was electrocuted.  (Never mind the problem that electrocution is not as easy as that.:))

Since gambling contracts are unenforceable, you have no problem.  If you want to save face you can bribe him to throw the game.

  4. Unnerve the bounder by playing a game of footsie with him under the table.

When he has lost miserably, mow him down in said Rolls.

  5. Challenge him to a duel - then the game of chess will be inconsequential!

  6. way would anyone bet there ride on a game of chess with an expert and i not even closet

  7. Funny man is back again!

  8. Try to shift the board so that the sunlight will shine in his eyes(Ruy Lopez),Stare at him unblikingly,

  9. Rolls Royce=ham  ?

    what?

why would even think of betting some1 with experience.

my suggestion is let him go first and whatever he does you copy him.

  10. watch out for fork spikes

  11. Watch for the classic motifs. Knights usually force you to decide between two pieces for example. Think about what he's leaving open by choosing the moves he does. You only have to be one step ahead of him to wind up on top.

  12. you don't seem serious lad, but any way what the heck. there is Napoleon move so you can beat him in the first two minutes, but I bet the champion would know it. so my second advice would be to read a book by Kabablanka, I hope I spelled him close. but I bet a lazy chap like you would not have time to read or practice, so I suggest you spare yourself the humiliation and give me the car, so he will have nothing to gain. am I a doll or what!

  13. I'm going to keep an eye on this question. I once lost a game in 3 moves.
