  3. I think any decent program can do it. I only use Fritz now and with that you can set up anything and do loads more. If that's not what you want, (it's expensive) you can always download a free engine or use your own chess engine. Then, you need to download a free platform, like chesspad, that should be easy enough to find online. You set up the position in chesspad, load your engine in chesspad as well and you're good to go. Chesspad can't play by itself, that's why you need the engine if you want to play against the comp. Maybe you just want to make bitmaps, in that case it won't matter.

    I hope that's enough information to get started.
