Clothing becomes more optional, the further south you travel in the Riviera Maya. Cancun has mostly tourists from the United States and is not considered part of the Riviera Maya. Playa del Carmen is mixed 50-50% topless sunbathing. Tulum is the most relaxed area in the Riviera Maya, and Tank Ha even has a nude beach.
