  1. With a CPL he will get paid for flying but this does depend on the aircraft he is certified to fly, with obvious restrictions.

A fixed wing single prop aircraft commonly used as a PPL trainer usually employs flight instructors FI(R) and less commonly, sky diving, banner towing. So this would be the prefered method if he wishes to find employment quickly and more cheaply.

From your question it seems as though his current licenses stand out as :

    PPL> IR > CPL

Not sure of his intentions, ATPL Airline career perhaps?

His second option is to gain his multi engine rating which allows him to fly a twin piston prop aircraft, a boost in performance and range compared to a single prop. This type of aircraft is usually used for aerial photography, and as a passenger aircraft for short fast flights to remote airstrips.

A CPL is often used by pilots who prefer to fly lights for a living or for those wishing to gain their ATPL, even flight instructors fly to gain their ratings onto bigger and better things, but usually pilots don't tend to stick around on their CPL becuase pay can be disapointing.

As for finding him emplyment, contact local or outer town flying schools. But it would be wise to gain ratings on his license that would give him a better reason to get paid for flying.

  2. i don't think its up to individual pilots - but the airline that they work for that gives you the job!

  3. Sorry to break the news to you, but I HIGHLY doubt that commercial pilots (along with doctors, cops, and lawyers) are sitting at home cruising Yahoo Answers.

  4. All the majors are hiring but he'll need hours. Regionals are the way to go for that.  Military pilots usually will get hired because of experience.

Tell him to live cheap if he gets hired.  Save for the futire Furlough.

  5. Congrats on passing his/her IR. There is lots of competition out there at the moment, especially as several of the major UK airlines have merged recently. I know that the following airlines have recruited low-houred F/Os like your partner:

Flybe - they are always recruiting.

Ryanair - are recruiting but your partner will have to pay for a 737 type rating.

bmi - they are only advertising for experienced pilots but I happen to know they have taken on others.

Aer Lingus - have been recruiting every so often, so keep an eye on their website.

The airline industry in the UK really is a bit of an old boys club, so your partner cannot just rely on sending CVs out to airlines. Your partner needs to get networking - a personal recommendation goes a very long way.

Also, have a look at www.ppjn.com and www.pprune.org and www.futureairlinepilot.com/recruiting.ht...

  6. best way is to get an instructor rating after he gets his CPL and build up his hours for 3-4 years till he has enough to get picked up by a regional. Instructors are in short supply right now so he won't have a problem.

  7. Firstly, where is he? We can't answer your question if we don't know where he is. However, Qantas Airways or any other domestic Australian airline should have some vacancies; we don't have many pilots here~
