it career sucks big time , it industry is going through one more round of recession.

I'm not a computer engineer, but close. And regarding your question, here is my opinion:

Positives:

Easy to find a job (if you are able to relocate).

Bosses tend to be kind (because people can leave easily for another job).

In most companies you have a flexible schedule.

You can become an entrepreneur, you'll need very low capital to start a company.

Decent pay.

The excitement of working with technology.

Negatives:

Infinite amount of specializations, you'll better choose the right one.

Your job can be outsourced, however you can get another job easily (again, if you are able to relocate). If you look at the statistics, this outsourcing thing does not surpasses more than 15% of the projects (I owe you the source sorry), so it is not doomsday.

You need to continuously update your skills.

You will reach a ceiling (rather quick), where your career does not advance anymore, unless you add some business skills, or change jobs.

You need to be able to relocate!!!

Very few females (from a male perspective ;-) ).
