I'm 17 and I just started working out and I want to do something like self defense classes. I just looked into Krav Maga and it looks really cool and intense. Is there anything else though that's not really typical like that?

  1. They are all cool if they work for you.

Bunjikan Ninja- Why do you feel free to give advice when you don't even know that a black belt, let alone a yellow belt in TKD does not have to register their hands as lethal weapons?

Based on this why should anyone take your advice?

  2. "Cool" is a matter of personal taste!

Check out the various martial arts available in your area and decide for yourself which is the coolest.

IMO: Walking stick and cane techniques are the coolest.

Most people here would disagree with me.

  3. jujitsu

  4. A cool martial art is purely subjective, at the end of the day its what you can adapt to and stick with ( cool or not this is harder than its seems )

But for talking's sake at the moment ie:

The 2000's... Krav Maga is the in vogue style

The 90's... It was BJJ or Japanese Jiu-jitsu.

The 80's ..It was Thai boxing and kickboxing.

The 70's... It was karate and Kung fu in there many gaises.

The 60's ..It was mainly Judo well here in the UK anyway.

They all serve the same purpose as a sport or self defence so really cool shouldn't come into it ,the question is what can you stick with and adapt to.

So food for thought ,but good luck and best wishes whichever you choose :)***

  5. Tae Kwon Do is great its fun 2!!

  6. Depends on what you want it for. For self defense without hurting the opponent there's Aikido. For Self defense that will cause extreme pain and sever injury there's Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai, Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu, Hapkido, and Maharlika Kuntaw. For self defense that will kill the opponent there's Ninjutsu and parts of Hapkido.

  7. Aikido...it's much better than krav maga and it's also less physical. you learn to defend yourself by turning your opponet's energy against himself.
