  1. Blow Me

  2. It all depends on the sort of boat.

If it's a houseboat, you want something like "River Princess".

If it's a 600 hp speed boat for hooning up and down the Murray River, painted black and hot pink, with glittery paint then you need a name like "Scotch 'n' Coke" or "G-String"

These 2 are already taken, as I saw them both on my last camping trip on the Murray, but you get the idea....

Maybe "Bundy Bear" is still available

  3. "If you can read this Flip Me Over!"   (written upside down)

  4. Paid IV

  5. Gull-Dang-It-Nancy

  6. Passing Wind.

Once read a charming story of a sloop simply called "Dog".

  7. call it boat

  8. A good name is hard to pick.  There is at least one book on boat naming, and I actually bought it when we were trying to name our present boat.  But it was pretty useless and I had to come up with a name by myself.  One way to get some good ideas is to go down to the local marina and look at some of the examples you see on transoms there.

One of my favorites was Sailbad the Sinner.  A recently divorced fellow named his 'Ruthless.'  You get the idea;  but stick to conventional names or phrases that can't be misunderstood.  One joker named his boat 'Emergent Sea,' which I sure will cause great hilarity among Coast Guard personnel when he contacts them as he's sinking.

If you've just bought a cruising boat then consider that the name will have to be clear when you say it over the VHF radio, and if you pick something obscure you'll be spelling it every time you call a bridge or a marina.  When I anchored near several Canadian boats last year I noticed they all had Gaelic names with lots of consonants and almost no vowels.  I have no idea how they fared, but I suspect they're regretting their choices.

    Good luck, and happy boating.

  9. Boat names are personal, the right one will just hit you.

We have used Pucka,Ehedig Albin ,Brigadoon, Leviathan, we now sail Mystery with the dinghy Clue, and still have the 1st 2 above.

Did your boat come with a name? Bad luck to change it.
