  1. That's really cute!  Here are some of my brainstorming ideas . . .

Party rooms are often kind of drab . . . it might help to dress the room up towards the ceiling . . . with helium filled balloons!!  Balloons can make an amazing but simple atmosphere!  Like mostly light blue balloons for the sky with some white for clouds.  Maybe some mylar sea creatures might be cute like http://www.prettypartyplace.com/cti-4340... or maybe http://www.prettypartyplace.com/cti-4340...  Either let them free float with long  ribbons so people can grab them from wherever .. . or cluster them and put weights at the bottom to put on the floor or tables.  The weights can be sand buckets or coolers or little clear containers of real sand with shells or some extra beach chairs strewn around the room.

Maybe put some beach towels on the tables as a sort of table cloth?  It doesn't have to cover the whole table . . . it'll just make the tables look more like a beach picnic.

Straws with umbrellas for everyone's drinks

Make a big foamboard "surfboard" with a sand bucket of markers available on the side so people can write special birthday messages to you at the party.  Or find a beach theme notepad sheets so people can write individual messages and you can put them in a scrapbook.

Remember when you all skate, it's going to be cold and maybe not all your guests will know or remember to bring gloves.  You might buy those cheapie inexpensive gloves now (since they seem to be on sale everywhere) as part of the "goody bag".  If it doesn't look "beachy" enough, put some beach theme sticker on them (it can always be taken off!).

Have a blast!!  Don't forget the sunscreen - hee hee!

  2. How about some inflatable dolphins, umbrellas for the drinks, and maybe some floral leis. Oriental Trading has fun things to make parties more festive and they have very reasonable prices. I just took a look. There are some fun ideas to add a punch to your party. Check out the flamingo sunglasses. What a hoot. I can just see you and your friends iceskating with those on. Make sure you have a camera.

  3. Include harp seals somewhere in that, will ya? Harp seal pups are the most adorable creatures on the planet.

    Anyway, happy birthday!

  4. that sounds so awesome!

    inflatable palm trees, birds, etc.

cute little sunglasses for people to wear as like little party favors, hire a DJ or make a mix of beachy songs.

    have some beach balls around

if you could, get some spotlights/disco ball type things, and have them near the ice so they reflect on it, making it more partylike.

The cake could be: a palm tree, maybe with a pair of ice skates hanging from it, showing the two themes of the party.

all the girls could wear grass skirts and coconut bras over their skating clothes.

    happy sweet sixteen!!!!!!

  5. 16th?  That's easy.  Lots of drinks and nudity.
