Question:

Any creative ideas for a boring sliding glass door?

I have a sliding glass door in my bedroom that opens up onto a deck. I currently have vertical blinds up which I despise. I am going to be painting my room soon and I would like to take down the blinds to allow the wood moulding to show. I want to put up something that gives privacy but can also be opened easily. I was thinking blinds, sliding panels, or curtains. Does anyone have some ideas? Or has purchased something that would work in my situation? Thank you I look forward to reading your ideas.

  1. You can even put bypass shutters over the door,...they slide to the side, or split in the middle and slide to both sides,..a really nice look. If you have enough wallspace you can make the panel slide right over the wall and you won;t lose any of your view.

Lots of people hate verticals,...here's some regular vertical alternatives,.....some verticals have an "s" curve to them to reduce the gapping between louvers and also it reduces noise when the wind blows through.  These days most Fabric verticals have NO clips and chains, so theya re noiseless and you won'tr have allt that breakage to deal with over the years.  There's also cellular verticals, and verticals that sit inside sheer material,....check out some of the pics at www.myspace.com/blindsblinds

  2. I would say to use curtains, especially if you want to show off the wood work. If you put up the other type of blinds then you will be hiding the wood work too. Also curtains dress up a room, and they are cheaper! Hope that helps!

  3. You can buy adhesive sheets which give a frosted glass effect or have the glass doors sandblasted in a pattern...might be a little messier and permanent. Maybe buy some blinds than attach to the stationary glass panel on one side and frost the door only. Leave the top section unfrosted for better lighting if possible.

  4. yes, you could do something like this, Interesting but different

or you could put up curtains the same color as your walls to blend it in like this

  5. how about putting reflective paper on it.  You know where you can see out but nobody can see in.  Maybe put some window decals on.
