Any device to tv?

Question

is their any device storage to which i can copy movie from computer to and connect to my tv rather than burning them to a dvd ?i just want to have all my movies in one storage and which can be connected to a television.any idea what that could be?

if your tv's not too old, you should be able to hook your computer (or at least laptop, i don't know if desktops have this or not) up to your tv and watch the movies on the tv screen instead of the monitor.  i don't know what the cables are called, but they plug into the 'Video out' hole on laptops and the audio/video holes on the back of the tv, and then you hit some Function key combo on the laptop. or at least that's how it works with mine, a Toshiba Satellite from '02.  if you want *all* your movies on one storage device, maybe you can put them all on an external drive, connect that to a laptop, and connect the laptop to the tv.  

there might be an easier or better way than this, but i'm not too tech savvy, this is the best i can think of. :p
