Aside from shingles, is there anywhere I should only be using nails? Or is the reason they're typically used to keep down cost?

  1. disadvantages of using screws as opposed to nails to build a shed:

    1. screws cost more (but hold better)

    2. screws take alittle longer to install (unless you are using power tools to put them in)

    3. years from now when it's time to rip the old shed down the screws will be harder to "undo" than the nails!

    i say "s***w it!"

  2. Screws cost more and take longer to install. If you are nailing by hand, screws may be just as fast as nails. Also if you are more comfortable using screws, go for it. Make sure you use a galvanized or coated s***w where exposed to weather. Good Luck

  3. Theives have screwdrivers too.

  4. Screws may cost more, but you will not have the problem of them popping up and out over time.  When we are building a shed, arbors, pergolas, framing, decks, etc., we always use screws.

You can buy screws in larger quatities at most Home Centers such as Home Depot and Lowes.

  5. Although screws take a little longer to install and have a slightly higher cost. They will have greater holding power and not loosen over time.

    I use screws whenever possible.

  6. screws hold better , and dipping then in dish detergent ( Dawn , etc ) will make them s***w in a lot easier
