Question:

Any doctors or medical students who know about the NHSC scholarship?

I'm applying for the NHSC scholarship, but there's one thing I'd like to know...

Do you get to choose where you fulfill your service obligation (from a list of approved sites, for example), or does the NHSC choose for you?

The reason I ask is that I live in the Pacific Northwest, and really, I'd like to fulfill my end of the bargain somewhere close to home if at all possible. It would really be a bummer if it turns out they could stick me anywhere, such as Puerto Rico, Guam, or even other parts of the continental U.S.

Any other insight on this program would be appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. Looks like there are a lot of openings--

In my experience in the Air Force, it is best not to be just a "number on an IBM card" ( I know, that dates me- but still a good term) Meet the people who will make your assignment, if you can.

I believe it is very much like the Military- you go where they send you. If they KNOW you as a person, they are a little less likely to send you to some Urban hellhole.  Good Luck!
