  1. There are lots of ways you can improve your serve.

    - Make sure you're holding the ball in the right position.  Your arm should be up ready to serve, and your tossing arm should be ahead of your body, in front of your hitting arm. (could be why you aren't hitting it straight...because your tossing arm isn't lined up, and you're rotating your hitting arm to contact the ball)

    - When you toss, make sure it's not too high, and not too low.  Say...2-3 balls above your highest hitting point.  Also, when you toss, toss IN FRONT of you!  So many girls try to toss right in front of their hand, so they have no power to hit it.  Make sure you tossing hand is as far away in front of you as possible.

    - When you contact the ball, make sure you aren't twisting your body.  This also causes the swinging of your arm to go crooked.

    - Swing fast.  I know your coach keeps on telling you that.  But if you swing hard, it makes the ball go faster. But not too fast, otherwise you might miss the ball!

    - Lastly, this is one to check with your coach first before you do.  When my girls simply aren't strong enough to serve overhand, I tell them to fold their hand (put your finger pads on the bottom of your palm).  It's almost like a fist, but you should have a flat surface from the bend in your fingers to the bottom of your palm.  Don't put your thumb in front!  Keep it to the side.  Then, when you serve, follow the instructions I gave you above, and serve the ball, contacting with the bottom of your palm (try staying away from the bends of the fingers, because it may cause the ball to go wacky).  But please check with your coach before you do this.  Or if you practice it before volleyball season, make sure you talk to him, and show him that it's possible to do (most coaches hate this way, or have never seen it before).  I got the idea from a girl I used to play with.  She was a very consistent server.  My coach (now we're co-coaches) now teaches younger girls this if they're having trouble, because it works.

    Hope this helps!

Just practice a lot!  Find a court, or even practice against a wall!

    Good luck!

  2. Go to the serving line with a tennis ball.  If you can throw the ball over the net, you have enough power to serve over the net.

There are 3 main causes for the serve not being good.  The toss, the technique, and your mind.  If your toss is bad, you will not get the serve over.  If you use bad technique, you will not get the serve over.  If your brain does not think you can get the serve over, you will not get the serve over.

Practice your toss.  If you are right handed, put your left foot forward.  You want your toss to be about 2 feet above your reach and landing about 1 foot in front of your right shoulder.  Toss 10 and take 1 minute off.  Do 10 and so on.  Do at least 100 every day.  More if you have time.

If you are right handed, make sure your right foot is back.  PLANT your right foot.  Many people that can not get the serve over move their right foot.  The strength of your serve will be using your entire body.  If you plant your right foot, you will be using all of the muscles in your body.  If you move your right foot, you will only use your arm muscles.

Start at the 3 meter line.  Get your serve over.  Get 10 over.  Take 1 step back.  Get 10 over and so on until you are serving from the service line.

Do this every day.  Practice your tosses and then start at the 3 meter line even after you are getting your serve over.

You will have a better toss, better technique, and your brain will now think that you can get the serve over.  One warning.  This will not happen in one day.  Do not give up.  Keep working.

  3. Get you a little 2.5lb hand weight or 5.0lb hand weight.

Hold it up like your starting to serve and then go through the same motion as serving. Do this 10/15 times in a row and take a break and do it again after about 5 minute break. It will build up shoulder/arm/wrist strength for that skill it will also build up some strength for spiking as well. While your taking a break go ahead and do the same workout with your left arm as well. You never know when someday you need to swing at a ball with your left hand so you don't want it to be weak.

    Good luck

  4. stay simple!

hit more under the ball so at least it has the height to

go over the net! just hit, it really doesnt take that much

    power.

    ok, this really helps.

start at the ten foot line and practice your technique

just serve to a partner so they can throw it right back

to you, the more reps the better! keep moving back,

until you cant make it over the net. at that point practice

there until you find the right technique to get it over!

eventually you can make it to the back line! I bet you can

do this all at one practice. It really doesnt take long.

Sometimes its just in people's minds that they are at

the back line. So if you slowly move back, you will

realize its really not that far! I hope this helps =)
