  1. Use a natural mop.  You can google eco-friendly stores.  ;)

  2. Melaleuca and The EcoSense Difference

Dust, dirt, and grass stains are a fact of life--whether on your floors, furniture, or clothes! Many cleaners use harsh ingredients that rely on chemical reactions to eat away dirt. 3. First of all, its more ecofriendly to keep using the mop I'm assuming you already own then to go out to buy a new one.

Diluting some vinegar in water to mop is a pretty standard method. Adding a couple of drops of tea tree oil will add extra antibacterial power. This method besides being very environmentally friendly is also very wallet friendly. =)

  4. If you don't mind getting on your knees, you could use a wet rag and hot water.

It also depends on what the finish is on your floors.  Terpenes (like Citrus oils and pine oils) work well on tile in the kitchen and bath, but will dissolve the finish on wood and laminate flooring.  For those, you really don't need to use anything stronger than warm water.

Use a cotton mop that has been well rung and is only slightly damp.  It will dry faster and use less water.

  6. Natural mops are a good idea, but as always, the mop you already own is a greener option than buying a new mop that has to be produced using new materials and energy.

You'll want a nontoxic floor cleaner. You could use a store-bought version (like Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds from www.drbronner.com or ECover's floor soap at www.ecover.com) or you can mix up your own on the cheap.

There are a ton of recipes online for floor cleaners. Some options include 1 cup of vinegar in a gallon of hot water or 1/4 cup of borax in a gallon of  hot water. The hot water helps dissolve the mix-in, break up any goop on your floor and make your floors dry faster through evaporation.

Don't slop it onto wood floors; nontoxic liquids can be as damaging to wood as toxic mixes.
