We want to trash a HUGE Sony Wega 40" TV made in 2001. Someone told me I'd have to call the Township Public Works to cart it away because of the "toxic chemicals" in them. Is it true there are toxic chemicals inside a TV without tubes?

I have no problem doing it the right way, I just want to know if it is true there are toxic chemicals inside.

  1. There are heavy metals (not to mention gold) in the components of electronics. Recycling organizations pull out and sell the usuable components, the metals that can be sold, and dispose properly of the heavy metals that are harmful to the environment.

  2. Yes there are, I think, but theres places where you're suppose to dispose of electronic items such as computers and tvs, and other items. They reuse the parts the can be used functionally. If i were you i would take it in to this place, although i dont know where this place is.

  3. If it's not broken, why don't you sell it on eBay?
