Question:

Any experience with Orange and international calls via broadband?

Thinking of consolidating phone line rental, calls and broadband to one provider. Orange offer free landline international calls via Livebox connected to Internet. I've heard of problems with Skype and wonder if anyone has good/bad experience with internet calls through Orange or this system generally.

  1. Dont even consider using Orange as a broadband supplier. I joined them for the same reasons that you have... all-in-one and free international calls. I became one of the thousands that have fallen victim to Orange's putrid service. Have a look at the reviews posted on Moneysupermarket.com. Trust me... stay far away!!!

I'm using Skype and have no problems at all.

  2. I do all my phone calling with my local Cable broadband Internet service, here in Canada, with very good results.

I use various different VoIP services over my broadband connection, with good results, too.

For soft-phones, I use and like Skype.  But, I also have good results with Efonica and Gizmo5 softphones.

For using regular telephones with my Linksys VoIP ATA adapter, I use InPhonex and CallCentric VoIP services with good results.  But, I sometimes configure the ATA to work with other VoIP services too (like les.net and voip.ms), with good results.  So, there are really many options to choose from.

I only sign-up with services that are BYOD and pay-as-you-go... that way I never get locked into long term contracts...

  3. skype, greatest thing since sliced bread, I ring my daughter in greece at least once a day (via orange I might add) & we send messages via skype.
