I'd like to hear your opinion about pop up style blinds, the kind that look like a small tent with holes for viewing/shooting, let me know if you've had success with them or if you think another method is more effective(tree stand), thanks for your answers, by the way I'd use the blind for white tail and predator hunting.

  1. I have a Cabelas lightning set it is much better than any pop up I have ever used before it sets up easy and fast like an umbrella and has shoot through windows for archery it works pretty well I have had several other kinds in the past but they are hard to put up and take down and when you are trying to set up before the animals get there time is important and it is easy to take down just hit it on the top and it folds down then is rolled up and put into a bag and easily transported just like a tent it is not very heavy and has a strap like a rifle sling should work fine for whitetail and predators and just about anything you intend to hunt from a blind

  2. I own an Ameristep "The Penthouse" pop-up blind.  Works fine for me.  Allows you the freedom to quickly set up a blind anywhere you like.  I hunted from it 9 or 10 times this past season.

  3. I had one and it worked pretty well. I still like treestands but when my kids were with me the blind worked for all of us to sit in.

  4. While I haven't used them myself other I've hunted with have had great success, both in leaving them there and setting them only when hunting.  A chair or stool is greatly appreciated in a short amount of time.

Tree stands are good, but you never hear of anyone falling from a pop up blind.  Tree stand bring there own problems as well as advantages.

  5. I have one made by "ameristep" that I bought from Cabelas. Yep it works but I just use it for photography. The style I use is tepe shaped and pretty much sets itself up. Weighs about 6 pounds and the bag that holds it has straps for packing it around.

It is advertised as an archery blind but I don't feel it is quite roomy enough for drawing a bow.

I suggest that if you use it for hunting, carry an aluminum frame camp chair (just the very basic type) so you won't be moving around inside too much. Also keep the camo "shoot trough" netting in place and just drop the solid "window covers" just enough to be able to see out without too much movement.

Now, if you are a bit short on cash and the trees in your area are suitable, getting about 15 feet off the ground will work just as well.

I need a blind because of the terrain I am in in Nevada.
