Hi,

I have a -3.25 diopter for both my eyes, NOTE: This is the prescription on my contact lenses box. I was shopping for Prescription Swimming Goggles yesterday and the choices were, -3.0 and -3.5.

Well im confused what goggle to pick since my prescription (Contact Lenses Box) shows my Diopter as -3.25, whereas the choices are -3.0 and -3.5, i dont want to ruin my eyes by buying a high prescription.

Heres the link of the goggles: http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___99321?CS_003=2477120&CS_010=99321

  1. get the 3.50.  since your contacts sit right on your eyeball, a slightly lower prescription is necessary.  Just for swimming, the -3.50 should work fine.

  2. Go with the - 3.00... because with a -3.25 in your contacts, there are pretty well only 2 choices that your glasses prescription could be...either the same thing, or a -3.00 - .50 so, either way, the -3.00 would work best for your goggle.

Even if there is a mild astigmatism correction in your glasses Rx,an astigmatism correction  isn't needed under water....and isn't available in swim goggles anyway.

Going the 0.25 weaker is better than going stronger. It will work just fine.

  3. contacts have a different rx than glasses do.

contacts are on your eye and the glasses are away form the eyeball.  you need to get your goggles the same rx as you'd get glasses= call dr for the rx. you might have to get a new test done.  best choice from now on... when you have an exam ask for contact rx and glasses rx.
