Any food ideas for a Baby's 1st B-day Party?

We're having a Winnie the Pooh party for my daughter's 1st B-Day. Its going to be on July 12, outside in the park, (a cook-out). Besides the usual hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soda, I want to do something different. There will be adults of course and some older children. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  1. I am not sure where you are but on July 12th in Texas you cannot have a small child's birthday party outside unless it's at a pool. Too hot.

  2. Sounds like you have a great start for the party.

For the adults and older kids why not Grilled pizzas the can put their own toppings on, you just bring the premade grilled pizza dough. Just have them bring what toppings they like, or provide them. Brats in a blanket, Pulled bbq pork sandwiches, Coldcuts for make your own sandwiches.

Just keep it simple and do alot of your prep work a few days in advance this way gives you plenty of free time to enjoy the party and your daughters First.

  3. Ignore the idiots who say the party is only for you!  I have a movie of MY first birthday party, that I showed at each of my daughters' first birthdays, AND it was shown at each of grandkids' first birthdays!  So...be sure you take a video!  .....  Now, hollow out half of a watermelon, and fill it back up with cut up melons, strawberries, blueberries ...  A veggie/dip platter is always good ....  Consider bringing an ice cream machine, or just ice cream in a cooler, and having do-it-yourself sundaes!   And, think about getting a "cupcake cake," which is cupcakes pushed together and frosted as a cake on top.  Kroger's bakery makes them, and any grocery bakery probably will.  They DO have a Pooh one too...    A pinata is good for the kids (maybe even the adults) ...  croquet set, badmitten net,  water guns (the older kids will like that)....  You don't need TOO much, as it's probably only a few hours anyways:)

  4. ice cream is good for july b-days unless you live in the cold.

Fruit such as watermelon is really good also.

    fruit salad

    potatoe or macaroni salad

    green salad

    salmon

    deviled eggs

    shishkabobs

  5. Fruit Tray, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, Veggie Tray.........have fun!

  6. Make the party about the adults. Adult food and booze. Let's be honest, your daughter won't have a clue what's going on so why make up a pretense about it being a party for her?

  7. bring a pinata
