  1. the best thing to do then if you are downloading things is to download torrents. Torrents are practicly untracable and you will never get caught. but as far as i know there isnt any software that does that..

  2. Changing your IP address will not make you any more or less traceable through wifi and other networks.  From the point of view of the internet, machines outside the network on the internet will likely only ever see the IP address of your internet connection at the router, base station or other connection.  It is is the router that handles the network address translation that ensures the data that should go to your machine on the wifi network does.

Changing your MAC address will also not offer you any protection.  And if your wifi network uses MAC address authentication to track wireless sessions then changing this would drop you off the network.

The problem is - that in order to communicate with any network, you must be able to provide a route for the data. If you do not have a valid IP address you do not have a valid route. It's like sending a letter but the return address doesn't exist...

If you are downloading via torrents then these are entirely traceable. In fact, in the UK and the US, internet service providers actively monitor the content of data for the purposes of legal compliance but also to shape bandwidth and thereby ensure that high bandwidth uses, such as video and audio, are not interrupted by p2p file sharing.  Turning on encryption in  torrent downloads can help this problem although there still exists vulnerabilities that can mean any files you share via torrents are easily traceable and this has formed the basis of both UK and US legal action against file sharers.

  3. You cant, your ISP still has you ip address and they decide when to change it...
