I'm working on 23rd street between 3rd and 2nd Ave and meeting a friend for lunch. However I have no idea where to take her since I always bring my lunches to work. Nothing fancy a cute delicious pub or a fun restaurant is perfect, any suggestions?

  1. 2nd ave pub on 23rd st.  rolf's on 3rd between 22nd.  the diner on the corner of 2nd ave and 23rd.

  2. The lines at the Shake Shack in Madison Sq Park are usually too long.

There's Live Bait on 23rd St. but that's a bit of a dive bar, and they're proud of it.

What about the Comfort Diner on 23rd St., between 5th/6th Ave.?  The food is great, waiters are friendly.

Closer to 6th Ave. on 23rd St. is the Rickshaw Dumpling House - you can choose from 5 or 6 types of dumplings, and have them served in a soup, salad, or by themselves.

Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop on 5th Ave. between 22nd + 23rd.  A little funky but I think the food is pretty good.

  3. If you don't have the time to wait for Shake Shack, try any of these:

L'Express - 20th & Park Ave South - cute little bistro, great french fries!

'wichcraft - 20th bet B'dway & 5th - owned by the judge from Top Chef - you can design your own sandwichs or eat one of their pre-made offerings

If it is a nice day, I would just grab a sandwich and go sit in the park and enjoy the day and people watch!  There are a few delis and fast food places right on 23rd between Madison & Park that would be good for that.

  4. How about right in Madison Square Park? The Shake Shack is a fun spot to grab a few burgers and a shake. Perfect for the nice weather.
