I have a 5 year old that is having trouble with her letters. Her mother and I work with her after school but it is difficult for her (our daughter) and we want to make it fun so she does not get frustraded with learning. Is "leap frog" a good option? Any good websites? Please help!

  1. why dont you try try non electronic learning?  let her pick a cereal at the store  c is for for what  a veg b is for what lets cook a b for dinner b broccoli bacon beans bananas  you as a parent makes life and learning fun not a leap pad step up get involved   im a 45 hr a week mom and an out of town dad you'll find a way

  2. Try crafts that involve making a large letter or word then talk about it a lot.  Visuals and actions commit things to memory easier.

I like to get paints out scissors glitter sequins and make a right old mess.  My daughter is three and can spell her name.  Just make it fun and sparkly - she's a girl.

  3. My kids love the website www.starfall.com, it has lots of learning activities. thats were I got daughter to read and understand her words and letters.

  4. Cut out all the letters of the alphabet. Present one letter each day to your child. Make sure the letter is large enough to write words on it. Ask your daughter, "What words start with this letter?" Every word she says that starts with that one letter write it down on the cut-out letter.

You could also go on websites such as http://www.pbskids.org/

    Hope this helps!

  5. I've heard good things about leap frog toys and their word factory/letter factory videos.

Some children need more time than others to learn their letters and sounds.  Not all 5 year olds are there yet. She is still young and still has time.

Your dd may enjoy games like scrabble jr, boggle jr, alphabet puzzles, memory, bingo (using letters).  Also read to her a lot to keep her interested in reading.

Hang in there.  She will get it, eventually!

  6. I have a 5 year old having a hard time learning the letters of his name.  we also have magnetic alphabet letters.  so, we made a fishing game of all his letters.  He fishes, catches one, he lines them up the correct way and we say them.  Oh you caught a  C - oh you caught an O - great fishing.  He loves it and  he's getting it.

Make textured letters - A can be covered in apple stickers, B can be covered in brances - C can be covered in field corn, etc.  Then he can go back and look at those - A - aaa aaa aaa apple - it will help his early literacy skills and he will have fun doing it.  As you can see from the other answers too - having fun is the key. When you're 5 you don't want to sit down and learn - you want to have fun so you have to be creative and combine the two so he doesn't even realize he's learning.  good luck and have fun!

  7. try http://www.pbskids.org they have a super why game that is really helpful.

  8. Yes leap frog are good learning toys you can also buy her an alphabet chart and the alphabet fridge magnets anything with letters on are good and you should read lots of books with her.
