  1. Buy the cheapest thing you can find, the service departments need the work. You will get just what you pay for, and the cheap stuff generally means you will continue to pay forever.

Get it done professionally and save money in the long run.

  2. unless u plan to move out in 18 months don'tt go with wicks they use re badged halstead boilers that are c**p..a boiler is the hardest working item in your house--and proberly the most important-£2,000 not a bad price-as a qualified engineer it costs me approx ( taken every 5 years)£1500 every year in certificate costs before i can even do my job..£50 boiler changes are no longer possible

  3. A lot depends on what work is involved in replacing your old boiler for a new combination boiler. The system may need a power flush prior to the installation which will add 3-400 quid to the job,if the flue system for the boiler is a vertical termination then that could add £200 to the job.A decent boiler will cost an installer £700 and that's with a good discount and he might take a mark up on the materials.

Get several quotes to give you an idea of the costs.Dont listen to the advise on installing gas appliances your self as you must be registered to carry out the full installation.CORGI engineers are not permitted to commission appliances that have not been installed by registered operatives.

Do listen to the advise regarding cheap installations equals unreliable installations unless you have a gas fitter as your best mate.

Even if you decide to buy the boiler from Wicks then remember that you will also need to buy the required flue type, time controller/room thermostat, cleansing and protection chemicals, filling loop, auto bypass, pipe, fittings, electrical joint box, spur, cable, pipe and fittings for condensate waste water possibly a soak away and any other materials that might be required. This could add on an other £300 to the price of the installation and labour could be anything from 4-1000 quid depending on whats involved.Oh then add the VAT.

  4. If you've got a conventional boiler and you're replacing it with a condensation boiler, you need a new hole in the wall and some major replumbing.  This all comes at a price.

If you think you're up to the job, fit the boiler and the plumbing yourself and get a gas fitter to come and connect the gas and commission it.  Just remember that if you get half way through the job and have to be rescued, it will cost you even more.

  5. for labour its normally about 600 quid so all together i would have thought about 1500 quid

  6. You can do all of the installation yourself with the exception of the gas pipework and the flue installation.

  7. It depends entirely on exactly what work you need doing... If you want your new boiler to last longer than 3 years then i would definitely advise NOT buying a £500 boiler from Wicks... At the end if the day, you get what you pay for...

  8. The quote will take into account the amount of pipework needed to install the boiler and possibly a new gas supply from the gas meter. Fitting the boiler in position should take about 6 or 7 hours including fitting the flue and electrics. I would qoute about £1,300.
