Warcraft III is still excellent on battle.net, as is starcraft/Diablo II. But if you're looking for free online games, I'd suggest a flash community site such as Kongregate.com

Definitely World of Warcraft ;)

I have played RuneScape and Guild Wars also. Runescape is ok if you don't mind the bad graphics. Guild Wars was terrible.

It depends what kind of games you like. There's Neopets.com but it's more browser based but has a lot of flash games.

I would strongly recommend Guild Wars.

Beautiful game, simple to learn and cheap to play.

No monthly fees, just the one off cost for the game itself.
