Im looking for some good trails around the Kaiserslautern area for some off roading or anywhere within 3 hours from here. I found a few small trails off to the side but nothing worth a darn.

  1. you may be able to take you car to the National Training Area in Garfenwoehr!!! Lots of mud and moister there. Just have to drive fast enough to dodge the ordinace in the impact zone! Good Luck with getting the auth form your NCOIC

  2. The only off-roading you are going to get in Germany is by mountainbike and foot. Forget it with a car - any spot remote or nice enough to be worth your while is a national park with strictly limited access.

Plus almost all land in Germany is privately held - land owners will not take it kindly if you run your SUV over their precious crops  or their young trees. You can be sued for trespassing and will be held liable for any damage you inflicted.

  3. As far as I know, general off-roading, as we know it in the States, is not legal.  You can't simply drive on a field or through a forest, and if you get caught, you're up s*it-creek.  Expect high fines and possible loss of driver's license.

There's an old saying/joke in Germany:  everything is basically prohibited (verboten) unless it's specifically allowed.
