  2. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper.

    I love this series. ^^  They recently made a movie of one of the books, but it sucked, so don't base any opinions of the series on that!  ^^

    Pendragon by D. J. MacHale

    This one is awesome too!  I picked up the first book in eighth grade, and I still love it after five years! ^^

  3. Try out older version of literature - namely classic literature. I would recommend you to try out books by Jules Verne, Mark Twain and Arthur Conan Doyle.

    You also get to read these books for free in the internet since these are in the public domain - no nothing to dig into your pockets also!

    Check out the following resource - it has more books than one can read in a lifetime and all classics (time-tested to be great):

    Hope you like this!

  4. A Great and Terrible Beauty is the same type of teenage fantasy, and it's getting quite popular. I think you might enjoy it. It's about Gemma Doyle, who finds she has mysterious powers and stuff. There's going to be a movie about it coming out in the next two years, and two sequels have come out. The author is Libba Bray, if you're interested.

    My favorite fantasy, and the funniest, would be the Bartimaeus Trilogy. It's an amazing book about a young magician in London and the mischeivous spirit he controls. The characters grow with you, and the plot is fun, adventurous, and, in some places, heart-warming. It's even got a little romance at the end. I reccomend this trilogy to anyone who likes Harry Potter or Twilight. It really is one of my absolute favorites, and you will be missing out big time if you don't read it. The first book is called The Amulet of Samarkand, and the author is Jonathan Stroud. Read it!!!

    About The Amulet of Samarkand:

    "Set in a modern-day London spiced with magicians and mayhem, this extraordinary, funny, pitch-perfect thriller will dazzle the myriad fans of Artemis Fowl and the His Dark Materials trilogy. And with the rights sold in more than a dozen countries, and a major motion picture in the works, the Bartimaeus trilogy is on the fast track to becoming a classic."

  7. Hehe, I too share your problem! I can't find a bloody thing to read out there, though I haven't read Twilight yet, but I'm going to conform someday soon and get to it :D

    But an excellent series are the new books by Garth Nix, called "The Keys to the Kingdom" There're going to be seven books in total with one more to be released, but they're more noticeable by the subtitles such as Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, etc., etc. it's about a boy who is picked at random by denizens in a massive House, the epicenter of the universe, where each demise (part of the house) is run by someone named after a day of the week, etc etc., well, to be honest, the first book, Mister Monday could have been done better, but it has wonderful imagery, the second book takes a while to get through, but the rest are excellent! I think you'd enjoy it.

    But if that's not to your taste, the Artimus Fowl books are pretty good, I liked them a lot myself, but a description would take a while, and I think I've already written too much ^^ but it's essentially about fairies but with a really interesting spin on their concept, and a 12-year old criminal mastermind. (also they're gonna turn it to a movie, they say)

    And, maybe if you've got a mind for a more mellow/plot-oriented story "The Alchemist" is very good too! :D

    Hope that helped ^^;

  8. You might try some older works of literature. You might recognize a lot of the themes and plots in newer works.

  9. The Faerie Wars Chronicals
