Question:

Any good children's books about adoption from the birthfamily's POV?

Ok, so most of you know my story. You know I'm a first mom and am raising the older sister of the baby I relinquished. I am just curious if there are any age appropriate books (older child is 4) that discuss the adoption of a sibling, something that comes from a first family's point of view. My daughter does ask questions occasionally, and I do answer them honestly, but I was hoping to find something that would be able to explain it more on her level. Do any such books exist?

  1. Well, this isn't quite what you meant, but FauxClaud has a wonderful version of her story as a first mother, and she wrote it for her 3 and 5 year old. No pictures or anything, though, and it is her particular story.

I will keep looking and see if I can find something in more of a real book form.

  2. 'Tell Me a Real Adoption Story' by Betty Jean Lifton

  3. I like tapestry books when it comes to browsing what is out there related to adoption.

Unfortunately, I haven't look at any of these books in person, so I couldn't give you my opinion on content.
