  1. I think the Ballys fitness on 33rd St. and 6th Ave is a good gym.  They will allow you to pay monthly with no membership fee, but I believe the rate will be much higher than paying with the membership fee.  It's a good gym because it has a nice pool and good, clean facilities.

    You may also wish to check out the YMCA in the Union Square area
