My bird has so many toys that he/she gets bored of quickly. Does anyone have any homemade bird toys or ideas for them. My birdie is a conure. :-)

  1. You could put a treat inside a paper towel roll and then stuff it with newspaper so your bird has to pull the newspaper out to get the treat or anything that makes sound like a bell (no zinc).

  2. conures like to chew things. you could try toilet rolls (with or without the toilet paper on it). natural branches, blossoms and leaves are all good, as long as they are not poisenous. these are all good for shredding.

my lorikets like to get inside paper bags from maccas and rip thier way out. they also like chocolate and chips wrappers to rip up, the crinkly noise is fun.

we used to get hapy meals all the time, the toys we got with them went to the birds if they were suitable. anything made of a non toxic material can be tryed, and hey, theres no harm in trying just about everything!

the best thing you can do is have a toy box and change the toys regularly. even moving a toy from one side of the cage to the other will make it more interesting. also, dont overcrowd the cage with toys. too much choice can b just as bad as not enough.

if you do buy toys, spend the extra money for toys that will last, not the $2 budgie type toys. there is a range of toys called activitoys that are made to last and are not too badly priced. they are also designed to work the birds mind.

provide some toys that are indestructable and some that they can destroy for a good balance.

    have fun and good luck.

feel free to email me for further information. or send me ur email address and i can send you more ideas as i think of them.

someone else suggested rope... rope is good, but make sure its cotton rope, nylon stuff can easily get tangled around thier feet and cut off the circulation. this can be very hard to fix and may result in amputation.

also, keep an eye out for cheap dog toys at bargain shops as some of these are also suitable for birds.

  3. My neighbor uses a dream catcher...?

  4. birds love rope, and rubber, it feels good on their feet

  6. Strips of material plaited together will make a good swing rope.
