  1. what do you  mean by good??

if you mean price, not really, compared to many midwest towns a definate no. For a three bderoom house in the suburbs like hillsboro or gresham, nothing less than 180,000. that's just for a small three bedroom.

  2. Housing does not start at 600,000 in the city.  There are lots of places for less.  That said, the housing market drop hasn't really hit Portland yet.  It's started to...a bit...but not like much of the country.  Perhaps this fall/winter it will finally hit.  Anyway, there are lots of homes for sale in the area and many lovely, but it depends on what you like.  If you like big, older homes (90 years old, e.g.), look in the city...Southeast or Northeast or North.  If you like newer homes, you should look in the suburbs...Beaverton, Tigard, West Linn, Willsonville, etc.  Condos are everywhere, but you probably don't want that for a family of five.  Myself, I would look in the city as there is so much going on in Portland - music (symphony, opera, rock, punk, whatever), art galleries, restaurants, coffee and microbreweries, etc.

  3. Portland is very expensive place to live. Housing in the city of Portland depends on where you are looking into. If you want affordable housing I would recommend that you hit the outer areas such as Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Gresham, and Milwaukie. There all with in an easy commute to downtown around 15-20 minutes each, if you don't want to drive they have an awesome bus/max line and car pool programs. I would recomend that you look at the website hotpads.com. It will help you in your search for that perfect house.

  4. Ladd's Addition is beautiful, cozy, comfortable and safe. Perfect for a family of five.

  5. A really good neighborhood with good schools is up by Lewis and Clark. My cousin lives up there, it's beautiful. My aunt calls it "the best neighborhood in Portland." It might be expensive though.
