We have just found out our next english assignment and its a speech. We have to present a seminar in front of the class (grade 11) about poetry and stuff that mixes in with the theme we choose. But I am having trouble picking a theme it has to be one that is appropriate for teenagers. I have some ideas for example love, fear, identity but i just cant find one that stands out, all ideas will be greatly appreciated : )

Thanks

  1. - Honour Killings

    - Children's Rights

most importantly, point out how though the future of tomorrow lies in the investment of youths today, youths are perceived too young to contribute constructively

  2. you can talk about peer pressure or how death is inevitable because a lot of poems talk about death like "The Waking" by Theodore Reothke

  3. What about The Future?

Your premise could be that as a high schooler, everything you do is prepping for the future. (SATs, visiting colleges etc etc) For a millenia, people have looked to the future with both hope and fear. Walk your audience through it.

Not sure what you've read so far but possible "future" literary examples to look for could be:

    - young women looking forward to a future of marriage, childbirth

    - young men looking forward to a future of war

    - a general hope for the future of the world

Or you can do Coming of Age. Lots of literary examples about that. :)

    Good luck. Hope this helps.
