I am planning a wedding for September 2009 and my boyfriend's family is all out East in Nova Scotia. I would love to get married in Cape Breton or Halifax.

Does anyone know of any really nice locations / resorts / reception halls in the area? Outdoor or Indoor.

Thanks!

  1. idk

  2. I would be careful with outdoors planníng - the weather might be unpredictable at that time of year.

I know that almost all of the tourist attractions close down for the winter, beginning between the mid of September and the mid of October. So, if you choose the timing right, you might be able to rent out one of the small rural manor houses for your reception (which might be more difficult during the tourism season, as well as during the time when the places have already been "completely" shut down for the winter).

I visited Prescott House and Haliburton House in late September last year, and if I recall correctly, one of them was just preparing for a wedding, the other for a murder mystery weekend - so I know they do rent out, although I do not know how much they charge.

The manor houses I mentioned are all max. one hour from Halifax, and even closer from the airport.

Mount Uniacke Estate, the biggest house, is much closer to Halifax.

Instead of contacting them seperately, try contacting the Nova Scotia Museum umbrella organistaion first (see link below) - they might be able to tell you which places are available for rent, and which are not.

I've added links to two common tourist destinations in downtown Halifax that do do wedding receptions: the brewery, and the Citadel.

You should also contact the visitor information centres (see links) for advice.
