I was watching the History Channel about the history of The invaders of Europe. I haven't seen the movie 300 (about the dark ages). I prefer novels to movies anyway. I am fascinated by the Huns and the Goths. I am an older adult so violence in the story is not a problem because there is no way to sugarcoat the Dark Ages. I want to hear about the intellectual side of all sides of these battles. Good biographies are appreciated too. thanks folks!

  1. Robert Harris's "Imperium" and "Pompeii"

Bernard Cornwell:  Warlord series: "Winter King", "Enemy of God" and "Excalibur"; Grail Quest Series: "Archer's Tale" ("Harlequin" outside of the USA), "Vagabond" and "Heretic";  Saxon Chronicles: "The Last Kingdom", "On a Pale Horse", "Lords of the North" and "Sword Song"

Conn Iggulden: Emperor series: "Emperor: The Gates of Rome", "Emperor: The Death of Kings", "Emperor: The Field of Swords" and "Emperor: Gods of War" (He has a few Gengis Kahn boks that are excellent, too)

Simon Scarrow: "Under The Eagle", "The Eagle's Conquest", "When the Eagle Hunts", "The Eagle and the Wolves", "The Eagle's Prey", "The Eagle's Prophecy", "Eagle in the Sand", and "Centurian".

    I hope this helps
