Hi there,

I am visiting Sydney, Australia this July 2008 and i am interested in doing some good walking or say light trekking trips for one day. Can someone suggest any good trips ?

I am not interested in walking the beaches. May be some good mountain trails or anything.

  1. See attached for some walks within Sydney itself.

Also try Katoomba and the Blue Mountains area to the west of Sydney.

  2. If you'd like to have a 'real Aussie experience', try the Manly Scenic Walkway! It's about 3-4 hours walking time, but well worth the effort! You walk through the bush, it's pretty wild, I didn't meet many people, and you'll have marvellous views! Also, bring your swimmers as you will pass nice beaches, and something to drink and eat, there are no places to buy anything on your way! It's easy to find, simply get on a ferry to Manly at Circular Quay and when you arrive there's the tourist information nearby where you can get a great map of the walkway! Enjoy!!! (^-^)

  3. This site http://www.wildwalks.com/ is an excellent resource.

There are many walks along the Harbour foreshores.  The Royal National Park to the south of Sydney, and Kuringai NP to the north have a large variety of walk.  To the west, the Blue Mountains has hundreds of possibilities.

  4. The website you've already been linked to is a goody.

Please don't do these trails alone.  And don't get complacent about the weather.  Although usually mild in July (14 - 20 degrees) we get very sudden electrical storms and flash floods frequently.  Not to mention the wildlife!

The amount of tourists pulled out of the blue mountains every year by search and rescue is nauseating.  The Australian bush is not a place to go in to alone or with no experience.
